Three teachers in the Republic of Moldova participated in an international conference held in Athens
Three teachers from the Republic of Moldova participated in the Thematic Conference themed: Learning to think in a digital society that took place in Greece, Athens, during 28-30 September 2017.
The thematic conference put the emphasis on the computational thinking skills. Computational thinking is an ability and a set of universal applicable competences that everyone, not just computer scientists, should learn and use, and this is highlighted in the European Framework of Key Competences for lifelong learning.
eTwinning, the largest network of teachers in Europe, has long promoted the ideas of innovation, creativity and critical thinking. Through this thematic conference – an overview of concepts and applications of computational thinking, their potential for those involved in compulsory education and how eTwinning can contribute to this process have been revealed.
The main objectives of the Thematic Conference were:
Introduction to how to apply computational thinking in education and how it enables students to think differently while solving or analyzing daily issues from a different perspective.
Training teachers to facilitate the use of computational thinking in schools and their eTwinning activities.
For three days, participants used coding applications for children, explored the concept of Ubiquitous computing, mobile computers and the Internet to promote STEM education, built the time machine, but also visited the historic city of Athens.
The conference was attended by teachers of different disciplines, while multiculturalism and diversity of languages, skills and experience created an exceptional atmosphere for any of the participants.
This conference has again demonstrated the importance of the eTwinning platform in schools in the Republic of Moldova.
The eTwinning Plus project is part of the EU-funded Erasmus + Program. The project is co-financed in the Republic of Moldova by the Government of Sweden and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark / DANIDA. The Ministry of Education of the Republic of Moldova has appointed the East Europe Foundation as a National Support Agency to implement the eTwinning Plus project in Moldova.
